Course description

Unit 1 - Portfolio of creative skills (AS)
This is a coursework unit where students produce a portfolio with three distinct sections:
1) A Product investigation
2) A Designing exercise
3) A Managing task

Unit 2 Design and Technology in Practice (AS)
In this unit students develop a knowledge and understanding of a wide range of materials and processes used in the field of Product design. You will learn about the industrial and commercial practices. (This is an examined unit)

Unit 3 Designing for the Future (A2)
In this unit, students further develop knowledge and understanding of a range of modern design and manufacturing practices and contemporary design issues. (This is an examined unit)

Unit 4 Commercial Design (A2)
This is a coursework unit where students are given the opportunity to apply the skills they have acquired and develop throughout the course to design and make a product of their choice. Students are encouraged to be creative and adventurous in their work.

Entry requirements

It is recommended that students have a C grade in DT and have shown a good level of skills and commitment to this subject.
