Mathematics at Belper School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

The AS course builds on some of the material studied at GCSE Higher Tier and then introduces you to more advanced topics which will enable you to solve a wider range of questions. You will need to work very hard, especially in your own time, but you will get lots of encouragement and teachers are always around to help you to achieve a top grade. If you have a talent, but more importantly, a passion for Mathematics then you will have a great time and obtain a qualification that can lead to a bright future.

Course Information

In Year 12 you study three modules, all of which count equally towards your AS grade.  There are two Pure Maths modules (Core 1, MPC1 & Core 2, MPC2) and one Applied Maths module (Statistics 1, MS1B).  There is no coursework and each module is assessed through a written exam, which lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes.

In Year 13 you study two more Pure Maths modules (Core 3, MPC3 & Core 4, MPC4) and one more Applied Maths module (Mechanics 1, MM1B).  The assessment is exactly the same format as for AS Mathematics.
