Beauty Therapy Intermediate Apprenticeship - NVQ Level 2 at Consortia Training

Course description

Suitable for:

Newly employed trainee beauty therapists wishing to achieve a recognised qualification in general beauty services or makeup. This qualification provides the first step to a professional beauty career.


Learners will have the advantage of learning and working in a real beauty environment.
They will be developing their confidence and skills at a supervisory level.
Employers will have their trainees where they need them – in the salon. The qualification will support the salon delivering high level, quality services.

Day Release learners:

Will attend the GeTaHead Training site at Head to Toe Beauty, 56 Bridgegate, Retford, DN22 7UZ, for practical & theory on a Monday.

Dates/ Frequency:

  • 1 day focussed induction at the GeTaHead Training site Head to Toe Beauty.
  • Weekly attendance at the GeTaHead Training site Head to Toe Beauty.
  • Monthly salon visits by a GeTaHead Trainer.

Course content

All Learners will complete…

  • G20 Health and Safety (4 credits)
  • G18 Promote additional services or products (6 credits)
  • G8 Develop and maintain your effectiveness (3 credits)

Either General Route Mandatory Units….

  • B4 Provide facial skin care treatments (8 credits)
  • B5 Enhance the appearance of eyebrows or lashes (5 credits)
  • B6 Carryout waxing services (7 credits)
  • N2 Provide manicure services (6 credits)
  • N3 Provide pedicure services (6 credits)

Or Makeup Route Mandatory Units ….

  • B4 Provide facial skin care treatments (8 credits)
  • B5 Enhance the appearance of eyebrows or lashes (5 credits)
  • B8 Provide make-up services(6 credits)
  • N2 Provide manicure services (6 credits)
  • B9 Instruct in use & application of skin care & Makeup (7 credits)

Choose Optional Units

(choose 5 credits makeup route/ 9 credits general route) ….

  • G4 Reception Duties(3 credits)
  • B7 Ear Piercing (2 credits)
  • B8 Provide make-up services (6 credits)
  • B10 Skin Camouflage (6 credits)
  • S1 Assist with Spa Operations (4 credits)


The course will also include…

Building PERSONAL LEARNING AND THINKING SKILLS, such as self management, independent thinking, team working, creative thinking effective participation, and reflection.


Assessment will be predominantly at the training site with some in salon (if appropriate) and will include:

  • Observation of practical skills
  • Oral questioning
  • Written or online tests
  • Written assignments
  • A portfolio of evidence as required by the awarding organisation
  • Tests and / or observations for the Functional Skills Programme (dependent on prior qualifications).

Entry requirements

This course is designed for established beauty therapists with:

  • Little or no beauty experience/ skills
  • At least 30 hours beauty employment per week.
  • Access to a paying clientele (if requiring assessments in the workplace).
  • Agreed ability to access the chosen units for assessment requirements.
  • Employer commitment to support the delivery of the training programme and
  • release the learner for the off the job aspects of the programme.
  • Entry Level 3 or above obtained in English and Maths initial assessment tests.
  • Commitment to purchase necessary tools, equipment and learning materials.
  • Commitment to complete weekly private study of 2 – 4 hours in learner’s own time.

Financial information

  • Cost of kit to be discussed at interview
  • Cost of textbook is approximately £35.00
  • All registration and certification costs are covered by GeTaHead Training.
  • The course is Government funded so there is no charge. 16 – 18 year olds are automatically funded.
  • 19+ learners are advised to check with GeTaHead to ensure that funding is available.

Future opportunities

This course will prepare you to progress to the level 3 in Beauty Therapy. It will enable you to become a junior Beauty Therapy status. For more career options plus refer to the Habia Website
