FLEX Transition Programme for Year 11 students (for students aged 14-16) at Wakefield College

Course description

This course is ideal for students requiring a transition programme to prepare them for post-16 learning. It has been developed with partner schools and aims to ensure students are comfortable and familiar with the College before they progress to College full time FLEX courses in Year 12.

Course content

What You Will Study

The course activities include vocational tasters, a range of personal and social development activities and tasks which encourage students to work individually and in teams. There is also a specific focus on developing basic employability skills.

How You Will Learn

Students will participate in a range of practical activities that include elements of our post-16 FLEX provision and help to familiarise them with the College, our staff, the way lessons are delivered, and what they will study when moving on to study with us.

Attendance

FLEX Transition Programme students attend for a half-day every week for one year. *NB - Please note that this can be increased to a full day and tailored to meet the needs of individual schools and students.

Identified by partner school as likely to progress to study with us for a FLEX programme

Assessment

You’ll participate in a range of practical activities that include elements of our post-16 FLEX provision and help to familiarise you with the College, our staff, the way lessons are delivered, and what you will study when you move on to study with us.

      Located just outside the Wakefield City Centre, our Thornes Park Campus combines a beautiful parkland setting with some superb facilities for the study of Music, Sport, Public Services and Travel & Tourism. Features include a Sports hall, gymnasium, fitness testing laboratory, climbing wall and sports pitches.

      Thornes Park itself contains a Rose Garden and Lake of the former Thornes House. The park also contains a bandstand that is used to host musical events throughout the year.

      Other facilities include an 18-hole pitch and putt, Tennis courts, Bowls, Miniature Railway, Cafe, Sports Pitches, Sports Pavilion and Athletics Track.
