Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Intermediate Apprenticeship – Level 2 at Dudley College

Course description

This programme offers the benefit of experience at work, supported by learning at College and is especially suited for those who wish to undertake an Apprenticeship. It will enable you to develop skills in a real working environment and offer you the opportunity to gain an apprenticeship. Over 25s are also welcome to apply.

Course content

VCQ’s are based on National Occupational Standards (NOS). Your VCQ is based upon NOS from the Institute of the Motor Industry Sector Skills Council at level 2. This level reflects the range of knowledge, skills & experience, and therefore competence that employees should have as they progress in the industry.

Level 2 reflects the ability to select and use relevant knowledge, ideas, skills and procedures to complete well-defined tasks and address straightforward problems. It includes taking responsibility for completing tasks and procedures and exercising autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance. The technical areas covered are: Health & Safety, Roles & responsibility, Tools, fabrication & materials, Routine servicing, Engine cooling & lubrication, Engine combustion control, air supply & exhaust and alternative power, Electrics & electronics, Steering, suspension & brakes, vehicle inspections and transmission & driveline.

Entry requirements

1. You must be in employment t the start of the course. You will however be given guidance to secure your own employment.

2. You will have a minimum of 4 GCSE’s at grade C including English and Maths at grade C.

3. You will need to take an initial assessment in Literacy and Numeracy and have a successful interview.

Acceptance onto the programme does depend on a placement offer from an employer. The initial assessment will be done at your interview.

Please note that you are expected to purchase your own Personal Protective Equipment.

Assessment

Continual assessment of practical units in the workplace. Awarding bodies on line underpinning knowledge testing and Functional Skills. Compilation of a vocational portfolio.

Future opportunities

Apprenticeship NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Mechanics and Repair including Functional Skills.
Professional qualifications in management, MOT tester or HGV or higher education.
