Performing Arts Level 2 First Diploma at Carlisle College

Course description

This course develops skills in acting, dancing and singing. Learners will take a variety of options in order to complete their chosen qualification. Many of the units are project led. This gives the learners the opportunity of developing skills and techniques in relation to a performance or showing.

The course focuses on developing the basic skills for performers and honing their academic ability before progressing further onto Level 3. The course is highly suitable for those leaving school that have been unable to achieve a C within their Maths or English, or for those whose practical skills require development. Entry requirements

You must have achieved four GCSEs at grade D or above, two of which must be English Language and Maths. A Level 1 vocational qualification equivalent at a Merit or Distinction Level alongside qualifications in Maths and English will also be acceptable or Scottish equivalent.

You will be expected to attend an interview and group workshop.

We look for lively, interesting people who are enthusiastic about learning and want to develop practical skills in performing arts. You should enjoy working with others and be prepared to work hard as the course does contain theoretical study into the industry and contextual history.

Enthusiasm and energy are important! Good skills in Drama and a positive attitude towards Dance and Singing are essential. Bring evidence of your achievements to date and your written skills to your interview.

Most assignments are a mixture of practical and written work. You will prepare performance showcases and productions demonstrating the skills you have acquired. You will build portfolios of work that provide evidence of your understanding for assessment.

The courses are continuously assessed; you will gain points for individual units on the qualification as you go.

Future opportunities

After completing the Level 2 Diploma, if successful at interview, students may progress onto the Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Performing Arts.
