Course description

How to carry out more advanced site carpentry skills; construct specific site carpentry structures including truss rafter roofs, stud partitions, hanging doors, fitting kitchens; understand the need to carry out safe working practices.The department has two custom-built bricklaying workshops with individual workstations for you to develop your practical skills. The staff are fully trained to advanced craft level, and have considerable experience of working within the construction industry.

To be successful in the course you will need to have an interest in carpentry and be able to cope with the physical requirements of working in this industry. The course is designed to prepare you for a career in construction so you will need to show you are a good team player and be flexible to carry out other duties when required.

Level 1 or equivalent qualification in Carpentry/JoineryGCSE grade E to F and a favourable report from schoolFor direct entry; 4 GCSEs including Maths at grade D or aboveInterview Required: Yes
