Media Studies AS / A2 at Budmouth College

Course description

This course is for anyone who has an interest in the media industry and its social, cultural and ideological effects on, and contribution to, society.

Course content

AS

Media Studies engages students in the in-depth study of media products in relation to four theoretical frameworks across all media platforms. In addition to the broad coverage of all nine media forms, students will engage in the in-depth study of at least one audio-visual, one print and one online form.

A Level

In addition to the broad framework offered by the AS course, students will develop a deep theoretical knowledge and skills to assess and analyse current and topical media issues and debates with close focus on one pre-determined topic and one Close Study Product selected by the student.

TAUGHT THROUGH:

Seminars; written assessment, discussion; independent research; current affairs analysis; self and peer assessment; peer presentation; analysis of texts; critical anaylsis of texts; critical analysis of media forms across all media platforms.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 or above in English Language GCSE. Confident IT skills.

Assessment

AS (If taken): 1 Written Exam; 1 Piece of Coursework

A Level: 2 Written Exams; 1 Piece of Coursework
