Biology A Level at The Campion School

Course description

In Year 13 the unit called “Populations and environment” will encourage students to problem solve in fieldwork. They will become competent in statistical analysis on the data they gather. Our study of the chemistry of respiration and photosynthesis will be enhanced by laboratory work. In the final unit there will be further studies in human biology. Investigations into animal behaviour will be followed by research into the most up to date knowledge of genetic engineering and aspects of medicine. The subject will be examined in five units and there will also be a practical assessment.

Entry requirements

Candidates require a good grade in Mathematics and a minimum grade of a B (or equivalent) in Biology or usually AB in Core and Additional Science for entry to the course.

Future opportunities

Past students have entered careers in medicine, dentistry and veterinary work. But we have also seen our Biologists go onto careers in Business, Finance, Teaching, Law, Sports Management and many others, using the skills of team work and individual study that we have helped them develop.
