Criminology AS/A Level at Sandwich Technology School
Crime has been a feature of human society since the beginning of time but serious study of criminality is only 150 years old. In the course of time crimes have changed, punishments have changed and the legal system has changed. In Year 1 of your studies will be learning about the theories of crime you will apply these theories to real-life inspired scenarios through investigation of true crime stories. Year 2 will focus on the English Legal System, how crime is investigate and punished. As a vocational course you will look at exactly how the theories of crime are used day to day by the police, lawyers and other professionals in the investigation and prosecution of crime.
The course leads to a qualification equivalent to one A Level in 2 years
Changing Awareness of Crime: How does the media and our society effect how we see crime? Are certain crimes highlight whilst other are ignored? Why does this happen?
• Criminological Theories: Why do people commit crimes? What are the impacts of crime on society and the individual?
• Crime Scene to Courtroom: How is crime detected? How is it investigated? This unit covers forensics, police procedure and the courts system.
• Crime and Punishment: How and why do we punish crime? This unit will also test you on all other units.
At least 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 including Maths and English

Crime and Punishment, External (Synoptic Exam) 25%
For people that wish to go to university then criminology will prepare you for degrees in Sociology, Law, Psychology, Citizenship, History and Humanities.
Employment pathways include The Legal Profession, Policing, Court Administration, High Court Enforcement, and Social Work.
