Dance - BTEC at Hartlepool Sixth Form College

Course description

We offer a range of level 3 BTEC options which include a range of different sized BTEC qualifications including a Certificate, Extended Certificate and a foundation diploma. During this course you will take part in workshops and practical activities in the studio and theatre. You will also work with professional artists in workshop situations and take part in trips to industry and get the opportunity to go see shows and a range of different performances throughout the year

Course content

Core units:

 These are compulsory and must be completed:

•Investigating Practitioners’ Work

 •Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance

Optional units include:

 •Jazz Dance Technique

 •Street Dance Technique

 •Contemporary Dance Technique

 •Physical Theatre Techniques

 •Movement in Performance

 •Site specific Performance


Your assessment is spread  over the course of the year and could involve live performance, written assignments, presentations, practical assessments and witness statements. Your assessment will be a mixture of internally assessed work and externally essessed work. There are no exams.

Future opportunities

This course wil enable you to progress to a higher education degree or dance school or conservatoire. You may also choose to enter a specialist area of employment within the performing arts industry. Many of our ex-stuents are now working in the industry,
