Art & Design AS/A2 Level at Belfairs Academy

Course description

Students study and submit work across a range of specialisms e.g. Fine Art, Graphic Communications, Photography, Textiles, Critical and Contextual studies and Printing. Students will develop an understanding of:

• formal elements such as colour, tone, texture, shape and form.

• how ideas, feelings and meaning connect to images and  artefacts both at a personal level and how they are also   

  socially constructed over time through genres, styles and traditions.

• observational drawing as this will be a key focus point of the new syllabus

Every student is expected to undertake independent work,  where form and content becomes the subject of tutorial discussion. This is designed to encourage independent thinking and express individuality and diversity.

All students will be required to attend a minimum of three gallery visits per year.

 

Entry requirements

Art grade C or evidence of exceptional performance demonstrated through portfolio submission

Assessment

The course is assessed through a combination of coursework and internal examination. There are no written exams.

Future opportunities

 

Photo-journalism, set design, fashion design, interior design, graphic design, as well as numerous jobs within the design field. Students find that the skills of independent learning and research along with presentation are advantages which they can apply to many areas of employment.
