Hairdressing Level 2 Diploma at Newbury College

Course description

This one year course develops skills in Hairdressing and is for students wanting to gain a well recognised qualification or extend their current skills. The hairdressing units at Level 2 range from Advise and Consult with Clients to Change Hair Colour using Basic Techniques and from Health and Safety to Styling Hair. You must ensure your attendance remains above 90% to enable you to be successful on your course.



You will learn the basic skills to become a capable hairdresser, through practise in our salon and working with real clients. During the course you will achieve a Level 2 qualification in ladies hairdressing. Completion of this qualification will equip you with the skills to gain employment as a hairdresser. Course content includes: Advising clients and consultation of their needs and requirements Shampooing and conditioning the scalp and hair, as well as recognition of certain disorders Hairstyling Cutting hair to create a variety of different styles and effects Perming Colouring Customer Service and retail Mandatory work experience

Entry requirements

Students will need to have five GCSE passes at grade D or above, preferably including Maths and English and Level 1 Hairdressing. Alternatively, students will be accepted onto the course if they have an equivalent vocational qualification at merit grade, and functional skills Maths and English, preferably at Level1. All students must have achieved, or show the ability to achieve, Maths and English to D or equivalent.


Observation of practical assessments on clients, projects, assignments, written tests and oral questioning and a portfolio of evidence.
