Geography AS Level and A Level at Mayflower High School

Course description

What will I study at AS Level?

At the time of going to print, the Geography AS specification for OCR is still indraft form and there may be changes before September. The main topics in each section are listed below:

Content Overview:

  • Fieldwork
  • Geographical Skills

Optionality – study 1 of 5:

  • Climate Change
  • Disease Dilemmas
  • Exploring Oceans
  • Future of Food
  • Hazardous Earth
  • Geographical Skills

Field work is an integral, compulsory part of the AS and will be examined in unit 01. At least two days of geographical fieldwork must be undertaken over the course.

What will I study at A Level?

At the time of going to print, the Geography A2 specification for OCR is still indraft form and there may be changes before September. The A Level is assessed via three exams, to be sat in following summer.

Optionality – study 2 of 5

  • Climate Change
  • Disease Dilemmas

  • Independent Investigation

Field work is an integral, compulsory part of the A2 examination. Fieldwork of at least four days throughout the A Level course is required. Additional fieldwork may be required in order to complete the Independent Investigation. Fieldwork will be assessed in the Independent Investigation, a written report.

 

Entry requirements

CAPS 40 plus Grade C in GCSE Geography.
