Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship Level 3 at Stratford-upon-Avon College

Course description

Our Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle is aimed at learners who want to develop their skills and knowledge within the motor vehicle industry. It is aimed at learners who already have basic experience, skills and knowledge.

This apprenticeship covers the repair and maintenance of all types of vehicles, from vans to hatchbacks, petrol to diesel. With more than 30 million vehicles on the UK’s road, this means the motor vehicle trade is growing and more trained mechanics are needed to keep them roadworthy. By completing this apprenticeship you will have covered topics such as health and safety, engine technology, transmission systems, fuel and exhaust systems (including fuel injection technology), steering and suspension, electronic ignition and engine management systems, vehicle performance testing, fault diagnosis and diesel fuel systems. You’ll even cover other essential workplace skills such as how to diagnose and rectify vehicle engine units, component faults, auxiliary equipment and electrical faults.

Course content

This Apprenticeship Framework consists of the following components:

NVQ Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Competence
Technical Certificate Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles
*Functional Skills Level 2 in Mathematics, Level 2 in English and Level 2 in ICT

*Functional Skills are only applicable to learners who have not already achieved GCSE grade A-C in English, Maths and ICT (or equivalent).

 

To achieve the NVQ element of this course, you will be required to complete a series of units which are then assessed in conjunction with observations in the workplace, to ensure you are able to demonstrate practical skills and knowledge at an advanced level.  We also offer learners the opportunity to once a week, participate in a skills class where skills can be learnt and demonstrated in a controlled setting.

To achieve the Technical Certificate and Functional Skill components, you will be required to undergo a series of formal tests. All knowledge to achieve these components will be gained alongside the NVQ. Testing will commence at College and you may be required to attend Functional Skill session at College.
