Acting Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College*

Course description

This course focuses on the variety of skills needed to become a professional actor.

Course content

The course covers a range of disciplines within performing arts and can lead to further study and work in directing, writing, producing, solo performance, publicity and marketing and arts administration. The course will help to develop your individual, communication and collaborative skills as well as offer the experience of working in a theatre company. Learners will study:

  • Acting techniques and styles of acting
  • Improvisation
  • Developing the voice
  • Physical theatre
  • Movement
  • Film and TV
  • Theatre for children
  • Contemporary theatre
  • Contextual studies
  • Classical theatre
  • Contemporary theatre practitioners
  • Collaborative performance & projects.

You will perform in three productions each year. In the first year, learners will study for the level 3 Diploma in Acting. Successful students then progress to the second year to complete the Extended Diploma.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade 9–4 (A*–C) to include English. A Merit at level 2. Exceptional entry may be possible if a high level of skill in drama can be demonstrated. People over 19 without formal qualifications will be considered.

Assessment

Coursework is set with structured achievable targets and clear regular feedback from your tutor. You will also discuss work as a student group and receive feedback from your peers.

Future opportunities

You will be prepared for higher education courses at drama schools, university or our Degree in Drama and Performance taught at the WISE Campus.

It is expected that learners from this course will be suitably prepared to enter employment within the creative industries.
