Access to Higher Education Diploma (Humanities/Social Science) Level 3 at Darlington College

Course description

The Access to HE Diploma (Humanities/Social Science) is a nationally recognised qualification with common requirements relating to the description of student achievement.

The course is a credit-based, graded qualification and requirements relate to both the award of credit and to the award of grades.

In order to obtain the full Access Diploma you will need to obtain 15 credits at level 2; these credits are obtained from common core units.

In addition you will need to obtain 45 credits at level 3 from humanities/social science units.

Attendance: Two days a week (Tuesday and Wednesday).  These will be 9.15am til 3.30pm both days.

  • Social policy and welfare
  • Psychology

Entry requirements

If you do not have previous qualifications in English and mathematics at GCSE C grade or equivalent you will be advised to study the relevant Access units.

It may be advisable for you to do GCSEs English and mathematics at C grade or above and to consider doing these as an additional qualification particularly if you are considering a career in teaching.

On the day of interview you will undertake maths and English assessments to assess your eligibility for the programme.  You must be 19 years or older to start this course.


You will be assessed through a wide range of assessments, this includes written assignments such as essays and reports, presentations, tests, group work and activities.
