The qualification provides a preliminary vocational education and training for those interested in the travel and tourism industry. The component parts of the BTEC First Award have a strong business element, making the qualification suitable for learners
who wish to move into employment, training or further education. The course requires you to study two core units and two additional units.
Core Unit 1: The UK Travel and Tourism Sector. This unit covers the main types of tourism in the UK, the contribution that travel and tourism makes to the UK economy and the different component industries that make up the UK travel and tourism sector.
Core Unit 2: UK Travel and Tourism Destinations. This unit enables learners to explore the appeal of the UK as a tourist destination and planning holidays to meet the needs of different customers. (Internally assessed)
Level Unit 1: The UK Travel and Tourism Sector
Unit 2: UK Travel and Tourism Destinations.
Two Additional units:
Unit 4: International Travel and Tourism Destinations
Unit 5: Factors Affecting Worldwide Travel and Tourism
The Edexcel BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Travel and Tourism can be used by successful candidates as a stepping stone towards entering initial employment in positions such as passenger check-in officer or tourist information centre assistant.
