What you will study
Four core units:-
- The Business Environment
- Business Resources
- Introduction to Marketing
- Business Communication
Plus ten units covering topics such as finance, retail, and small business start-up.
Maths and English are key elements of any full-time programme of study in College. If you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C in these subjects, you will need to attend sessions allocated on your timetable. These are varied and designed to cater for all ability levels. You will receive advice and guidance regarding the correct level for you.
Skills in Maths and English will support your full-time course, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C. This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.
Your Course Structure
How you will learn
Through formal lessons, case studies, business-related activities, individual research, guest speakers and visits.
4 GCSEs at A*-C (new grade 9-4)
Level 2 Functional Skills in either English or Maths, and
Grade D (new grade 3) or Level 1 Functional Skills in the other
How you will be assessed
Internally assessed assignments.
Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residentials etc which are payable by all students.
Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any resit examination will incur a cost.
Different fees apply to international students.

A range of higher education courses such as HNCs and foundation degrees, such as the HNC Business and the Foundation Degree Management and Business Enterprise both offered by Wakefield College. Alternatively there are opportunities for Apprenticeships in areas such as Accounting and Business Administration.
A wide range of business careers such as accounting technician, facilities officer, fundraiser, housing officer, insurance claims settler, legal secretary, paralegal or trainee legal executive, customer services officer or retail assistant.
