Creative Media Production - Journalism Level 3 Diploma at West Herts College

Course description

Looking for a course that inspires and excites? Convinced you have what it takes to succeed in a creative field and keen to sample your options before specialising? This course is for you.

Develop vital skills and build a professional portfolio, setting you up for a range of careers in modern journalism – as well as jobs in marketing, events management, advertising or magazine design.

Course content

You’ll produce your own newspaper and online magazine, operate our radio station and produce a TV magazine program in our state-of-the-art TV studio.

Subject areas include:

  • Factual programme production techniques for TV

  • News production for radio

  • Writing and editing copy

  • Working freelance

  • Writing for television and video

  • Page layout and design

  • Research and pre-production

  • Understanding print media

  • Digital graphics for prints

Good English, maths and IT skills are central to success – whether you have work or university in mind after College. And in readiness for working life you’ll complete GAP work placements to boost your professional confidence. GEM is our bespoke English and maths programme that will ensure you develop key skills required for this exciting industry.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs (A*-C) including English or a Level 2 Diploma in Media, you will also be required to attend a course introduction meeting.

Future opportunities

Your study options include the Foundation Degree, BA Honours or HND in Journalism or Media Production or related media subjects. Alternatively, work towards your NCTJ Diploma in Journalism. Possible careers include journalism in printed media, TV, radio or interactive media.
