Course description

Course Overview

This course provides an introduction for learners looking to build a career in sport within coaching, leadership and sports development areas. It is the equivalent of 2 A Levels of which 45% is externally assessed in
examination conditions and 55% internally assessed coursework.


It gives learners the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised Level 3 vocationally specific qualification in sport. It also provides an opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for
successful performance in working life.

Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being

Practical Sports Performance

Coaching for Performance

Year 2

Professional Development in the Sports Industry

Sports Leadership

Investigating Business in Sport and the Active Leisure Industry

Skill Acquisition in Sport

Sports Psychology



Learners will have the opportunity to visit local workplaces in the sport and active leisure sector as well as studying a number of practical individual and team sports. Learners will also have the opportunity to gain relevant work experience and gain experience as sports leaders in conjunction with local primary schools.

Entry requirements



Future opportunities

The course provides learners with the opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or progress to higher education vocational qualifications.
