Games Development UAL Level 3 Diploma at Doncaster College

Course description

The UAL Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development) is a one year course designed to introduce you to the skills needed to become a professional Computer Games Developer. 

You will learn to design and conceptualise 3D models and virtual game worlds, learn to plan time and resource to facilitate the production, work as part of small creative teams to deliver a 3D playable demo of your initial idea.

Course content

The course is made up of practical and theory projects and workshops giving learners the opportunity to expand their horizons within the field of Games Development. Assignments on the course are timed over the two semester’s, with the first projects designed around the ideas and the second projects around the delivery of the final game level.

The Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development) is a 9 unit qualification (achieved in year one only).

 

Entry requirements

  • 5 GCSEs grades A*-C including English
  • or First Diploma in Creative Media Production Level 2 at Merit     
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
  • All students will need to present a portfolio of art work at interview.

Assessment

​Functional skills are embedded throughout the course, you may be required to take an exam and/or complete a portfolio to achieve these. 

The course is assessed continuously with critiques at the end of each project.

Future opportunities

​Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development) have gone on to study Games Design, Games Art, Games Development at degree level at Universities In Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Doncaster, Lincoln, Teesside, Manchester and beyond.
