Performing Arts - Level 3 Diploma at Middlesbrough College

Course description

This course provides students with a good quality grounding in Performing Arts equipping the student with background theory and performance skills in specialist areas of Performing Arts. There are three different specialist areas offered within this qualification which are - acting, Dance, and Musical Theatre. You will have the opportunity to make the decision what specialist route you follow. The course is practical and work related. You will receive training in subjects such as: - Acting (Acting for Film and TV - Physical Theatre – Voice – Improvisation) - Dance (Jazz – Contemporary – Ballet – Circus Skills) - Musical Theatre (Musical Theatre Performance – Singing Skills – Acting – Jazz) - Stagecraft.

Performance Workshop Principles of Acting Circus Acrobatics Developing Physical Theatre Performing to an audience Applying / Developing Contemporary Dance The Healthy Performer Historical Context of Performance Rehearsing for Performance Storytelling as Performance Choreographic Principles Jazz Dance Developing Voice for the Actor Developing Classical Ballet Technique Dance Performance Contemporary Theatre Performance Classical Theatre Performance Mime Musical Theatre Performances Choreographing Dances Performing Arts Business

Entry requirements

To gain entry to this course you must possess four or more GCSE's at Grade C or above, to include English at Grade C or above (or an equivalent qualification e.g. Level 2 English and preferably Maths at Grade C or above (or equivalent e.g. Level 2 Maths) or a Level 2 First Diploma in Performing Arts with a Merit profile or other equivalent qualifications acceptable to the College. You must also undertake a successful interview and audition and also provide a satisfactory reference. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."


Students will be assessed via assignments and projects, observations of practical work, rehearsals and performance.

Future opportunities

Completion of this course allows students to progress to Higher Education in Performing Arts or move into employment within the Entertainment Industry.
