Course description

This is a Level-2 IT qualification with a focus on Games and Animation. It is for you if you’re interested in a mixture of IT (gaming and animation) and creative subjects. The course will allow you to develop your skills in cutting edge digital work.

On the course, you will be introduced to a wide range of creative activities including software-based design, animation and programming.

You will work using state of the art industry standard software during your course.

What is the course structure?

The course is made up of individual units with focus on multiple aspects of games and animation. The mandatory units will enable you to study particular IT areas in depth, and specialist units will be aimed at delivering course specific knowledge and skills, with all internal assessments.

Your Study Programme will include the main course, a weekly tutorial, work experience placement, employability skills development and English and Maths as required.

Minimum age requirement: 16

Course content

  • Level 2 - Unit 02 - Working in the IT industry

  • Level 2 - Unit 03 - Business IT skills

  • Level 2 - Unit 04 - Installing computer hardware

  • Level 2 - Unit 05 - Installing computer software

  • Level 2 - Unit 09 - Website development

  • Level 2 - Unit 10 - Computer graphics

  • Level 2 - Unit 11 - Multimedia design

  • Level 2 - Unit 13 - Interactive media production

  • Level 2 - Unit 16 - Project planning using IT

  • Level 2 - Unit 17 - Customising software

  • Level 2 - Unit 19 - Mobile communications technology

  • Level 2 - Unit 22 - Developing computer games

  • Level 2 - Unit 23 - Spreadsheet modelling

  • Level 2 - Unit 24 - Animation techniques

Entry requirements

2 - 4 GCSEs grade A*- D (including Maths and English); or functional at Level 1; or Foundation Learning Level 1 Certificate or Award; or BTEC/UAL Level 1 Diploma in IT pre-access level 1 qualification; or NVQ 1 or equivalent.
Successful completion of internal assessment is also required.


Student assessment is based on course work, both practical and written (marked by your college teachers and verified by Cambridge).

Future opportunities

What job could I get afterwards?

The course will open up a wide range of creative career opportunities including game designer, animator and/or working in the IT industry. However, most students continue onto one of our Level 3 courses.

Further information

You will learn in dedicated computer labs equipped with industry standard software packages.

The course is usually timetabled over 4 days per week.
