Drama and Theatre Studies at The Grange School
This course is designed for students who enjoy reading
plays and watching or participating in drama - as
performers, directors, or designers - and who want
to develop their skills in one or more of these areas.
One of the attractions of this Drama and Theatre
Studies course is the group work that you will find is
at the heart of the practical element of the course.
However, this subject is not solely about acting and we are not interested in simply
training actors. It helps to encourage your self-awareness and confidence. It enables you
to understand yourselves and the world in which you live. It encourages you to think
freely and not be afraid to ask questions or air your views. You will learn to communicate
effectively with each other and to value trust and co-operation.
You will be expected to study and research the theory in the same manner as any other
subject, which is with background reading and essay-writing. The practical work is an
integral part of our teaching and you will be expected to volunteer your own free time to
extend your performance technique through rehearsals, or to enhance your knowledge of
live theatre through regular theatre visits or workshops.
Our standard academic entry requirements
into the Sixth Form at The Grange School are:
¬ Students should secure Grade A or A* in the
four or five subjects to be studied at AS level;
¬ Where the subject is not offered at GCSE
(e.g. Philosophy), we would expect to see
evidence of Grade A or A* in related subjects;
¬ These results should be accompanied with
four other GCSEs at Grade B or above which
should include English and Mathematics if
they are not one of the chosen AS subjects;
¬ Any remaining GCSE examination results
should be at Grade C or above.
