Music Technology: Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma at NESCOT

Course description

This BTEC National Diploma is a practical course where you will learn about the production processes in the music industry.

Course content

You will develop the skills you need to start a career by completing assignments that are based on real work situations. You will learn how to use computer music systems, synthesisers & samplers & develop skills in recording, post production techniques and operating live sound systems.

The course is made up of 18 units. You will also study key skills communication (English).

Examples of units studied are:

  • Sequencing Systems & Techniques
  • Sound Creation & Manipulation
  • The Sound & Music Industry
  • Sound Recording Techniques
  • The Functional Music Keyboard
  • Soundtrack Production for TV and Film.

Many of the tutors are Working Musicians or with specialist knowledge. We have a dedicated sound Recording Studio within our Media Suite.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade C or above including English, or Level 2 at Merit plus English.

Future opportunities

You may want to progress to a specialist Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music or Media if you get Merit grade at the end of this qualification. Alternatively, you may progress into work, such as in music shops, or seek work as a music performer, session player, or in the recording industry.

    • By Road:
      Nescot is located just off the A240 (Reigate Road), close to the junction with the A24 (Ewell Bypass).  The College is just five miles inside the M25 (Junction 9).
      There is a large, free car park for use by students and visitors.

      By Rail:
      Nescot is served by two mainline railway stations.
      Ewell East (Southern Railway)
      Ewell East is a two-minute walk from the College from a public footpath leading off Platform 2.  Trains run every half-hour from London Victoria.
      Ewell West (South West Trains)
      Ewell West, which is 15 minutes walk from the College, is on the main line from London Waterloo.
