A Level Photography at Shrewsbury College

Course description

The course involves researching historical and contemporary photographers, analysing imagery produced by others and yourself, evaluating your own work and that of photographers. You will produce sketchbook work supporting your photographic work in response to set assignments. There is a practical based timed exam for both A/S and A level. The course will be mainly digital-based, but there will be an experimental section when students can use the darkroom and work with traditional processes. Students will work on Photoshop to produce their images and will be taught the latest image manipulation techniques. Students will also take part in visits and location shoots will be incorporated.

Course content

Entry requirements

You will need to be a student on one of our full time vocational courses.

Assessment

You work will be assessed through a mixture of coursework and exam that has a 60% coursework and 40% practical exam grading split. There is the option to take a one year A/S or to undertake a full two year A level students will be expected to indicate their chosen qualification at the start of the course. The opportunity to change from A/S to full A level will be available from September 2015 to January 2016. If a student choses to study A/S completes the exam component and is awarded an A/S grade. There is still an opportunity to complete a full A level in the following year.

Financial information

You will be expected to work in sketchbooks and produce photography which may have additional costs depending on your medium of choice, lecturers will provide a recommended equipment list. The may be the opportunity to attend study visits which would be additional costs.
