Drama BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Wednesfield High Specialist Engineering Academy

Course description

The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting) is a 60-credit and 360-guidedlearning-hour (GLH) qualification that consists of six units that provide for a total of 60 credits.

It is broadly equivalent to one GCE A Level. Students cover a range of units that help prepare them for a range of employment and further education opportunities.

The course is delivered in a variety of ways including practical sessions and more classroom based theory work.

Course content

Year 12

Unit 1: Investigating Practitioners Work – 90 GLH Students investigate the work of performing arts practitioners, develop critical analysis skills and contextual understanding of how practitioners communicate themes in their work (externally assessed).

Unit 2: Developing Skills & Techniques for Live Performance – 90 GLH Students explore technical performance skills with a focus on developing and demonstrating skills and techniques in at least two performance styles within a selected discipline.

Year 13

Unit 3: Group Performance Workshop - 120 GLH - group performance Students will develop physical techniques, as well as wider transferable skills such as being able to work collaboratively, personal management and organisation (rehearsals, time management), being able to give and take direction, confidence in front of an audience, problem solving (refining the process) and team work (externally assessed).

Unit 21: Improvisation – 60 GLH Students will learn to understand different audiences in different environments and will learn to adapt a performance to engage the target audience using a given stimulus.

Assessment

Year 12 

  • Two Units will be completed in Year 12.
  • One will be internally assessed, one externally assessed.

Year 13

  • Two units will be completed in Year 13.
  • One will be internally assessed, one externally
