BTEC First Diploma: Music at Leicester Academy of Music, Technology and Arts
For those seeking a career in the music industry, whether as a performer, studio engineer or computer music producer, this one year course is designed to give you the foundations you will need to pursue this goal.
The course is highly practical and centres around band rehearsal, performance and instrumental skills development (including vocals). You will receive group tuition on your main instrument. For those more interested in technology there are also units including music production, recording and the music business.
Functional Skills form an integral part of the course. Its not all practical: the academic side is very important, too.
You will need at least four GCSEs at grade D or above, or an equivalent level 1 qualification. You will also need to attend a music audition/interview, where your skills and potential will be assessed.
Modules are assessed using a range of methods including practical assignments, presentations, projects, written assignments, listening tests and phase tests, completed both in College and at home. Although there is a slant towards practical work, there is also a significant academic element to this course, you need to be prepared for this.
This course is free for young people aged 16-18. All you will have to pay is a small enrichment fee.
If you are 19+ there may be a small cost to the course but we can help you understand this more at interview and you may be eligible for financial help dependant on your circumstances.
If you are 24+ you will need to apply for an advanced learner loan and we can advise you more on this when you come in and see us.
