This course will help you develop an appreciation of the coaching process in a variety of settings as well as allowing you to develop professional skills in your own coaching environment, whilst planning testing and working to develop the quality of a range of sports.
As part of your sport qualification, you will be exposed to a range of world-class facilities in East Manchester, working alongside, and with: elite athletes, sports teams, coaches and governing bodies to investigate and enhance sport performance.
In your first year you will study:

4. Coaching and Leading for Participation
5. Provision of Sport for People with Physical and Learning Disabilities
6. Physical Education and the Care of Young People
7. Sports Leadership
Playing the role of a sports analyst – analysing the performance of athletes & elite teams such as Man City EDS / U18’s squad. Taking part in lab based activities that allow you to play the role of a sport scientist in the Manchester Institute of Health and Performance. This outstanding opportunity is based within the official training and testing centre for podium athletes and is considered to be the best sport science facility in the UK.
To study this programme you will need to achieve 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English and Maths.
Length: This is a linear course and will take two years to complete
In your first year, you will sit two exams, combined they are worth 22% of your overall BTEC qualification. In your second year, you will complete two tasks linked to specific vocations in sport, worth 11% of your overall grade. You will also complete a range of practical and theoretical assessments throughout the two years, which in total will be worth 67% of your final grade.
In addition to the sport and exercise science sector specific content, the requirements of the qualification mean students develop the transferable and higher order skills that are highly regarded by both HE and employers.
The qualification is intended to carry UCAS points and is recognised by HE providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant courses.
