Public Services BTEC Level 3 Diploma at City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College

Course description

Interested in a career in the Fire, Police, Royal Marines, Ambulance Services or the Army, Navy or RAF? This practical, hands-on course will give you an insight into working within the Uniformed Public Services. You will improve your physical fitness, outdoor education skills and develop a better awareness about yourself, your strengths and the knowledge and requirements needed to gain successful entry into a Uniformed Public Service of your choice.

Course content

• Outdoor adventurous activities

• Health, fitness and lifestyle

• Practical team sports

• Outdoor adventurous expeditions

• Map reading and navigation

• Citizenship and diversity

• Crime and its effects on society

• Leadership and teamwork

• Understanding discipline

• Fitness testing and training

 

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs grade A-C, preferably including Maths and English. This is a guideline rather than a requirement and the college will create a programme most suitable for you as an individual.

Awarding Body: Edexcel

Assessment: Coursework 100%

Results 2016: 100%

This course is free to students aged 16-19 years old

Future opportunities

You can progress either to employment in any of the military or civic uniformed public services or to any university degree which accepts UCAS points generated from BTEC national qualification. Some examples of possible Higher Education progression are:

  • BA(Hons)in Crime, Deviance and Society
  • BSc(Hons) in Policing and Criminal Investigation
  • LLB(Hons) in Law (Criminology)
