Religious Studies at Washwood Heath Academy

Course description

The course offers an academic approach to the study of religion andis accessible to candidates of any religious persuasion or none. You willdevelop your interest in a rigorous study of religion and its relation tothe wider world; adopt an enquiring, critical and reflective approach to yourstudies and reflect on and develop your own values, opinions andattitudes in the light of your learning. During the course you will have the opportunity to study four topicareas. The AS Level topics are an introduction to Religious Studies,focussing on The Philosophy of Religion and The Life of Prophet Muhammed. The A Level units are Life, Death and Beyond and World Religions. These make up the full A Level qualification.

Entry requirements

In order to be considered for the course you must have an A*-B GCSE in English and Religious Studies or History.


A Level RS is split into four units, two per year. Each is assessed by means of a final examination consisting of essay questions.

RS provides you with a range of skills that prepare you forthe critical thinking required for university. RS A Level can lead toand support a variety of careers including: teaching, social work,policing, law and journalism. RS teaches you about other peoples’ cultures and beliefs and therefore also prepares you for life in a multicultural and diverse society.
