Music GCE A Level at Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College

Course description

We require grade 5 music theory and grade 5 performance, or equivalent ability (by audition). You will need to provide your own instrument and make your own arrangements for instrumental or vocal lessons. You will also need to have GCSE English at grade 4.

Course content

FIRST YEAR OF A LEVEL

Component 1 – Appraising Music

You will be require to listen to and analyse excerpts of music and to write an essay based on the music you have heard.

Component 2 – Performance

A minimum of six minutes of performance as an instrumentalist or vocalist or music production, either as a solo or in an ensemble.

Component 3 – Composition

You will be required to compose two pieces; one to a brief and the other a free composition. A minimum of four and a half minutes of composition in total.

 

SECOND YEAR OF A LEVEL

The second year has a similar 3 unit scheme of assessment to the first year.

We require grade 5 music theory and grade 5 performance, or equivalent ability (by audition). You will need to provide your own instrument and make your own arrangements for instrumental or vocal lessons. You will also need to have GCSE English at grade 4.
