Course description

As part of your programme of study, you will complete a Level 3 Applied Science (Forensic Science) qualification. This will provide the knowledge, understanding and skills for learners wishing to enter a career as a science technician in the areas of laboratory and industrial science, medical science service or the forensic science service.

This programme of study will provide you with access to more specialist units and therefore broadens and deepens your experience in preparation for the world of work.

It also provides progression to higher education vocational qualifications such as a Higher National Certificate/Diploma, a Foundation degree or an Honours degree.

Course content

Approximately 50% of the time will be spent looking at the basic concepts and using them.

Class work will often start off by looking at the relevant notes together as a group, adding key facts and emphasising particular points. This will be followed up by looking at problems either in small groups or individually.

The remaining time will be practically based, working on experiments closely linked to the theory covered.

Entry requirements

  • Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, which must include Science; Maths is preferred as one of the other GCSEs, or
