German GCE AS Level at Oriel High School

Course description

As countries become every more interconnected, the ability to engage in cross-cultural
communication will grow ever more important. Learning another language will open the door to another culture and enhance your career opportunities in the increasingly global economy.
 
Having strong skills in another language may give you an edge when applying for a job.

Course content

8 contact hours of taught content per fortnight, split between two members of
teaching staff.
»» Independent study commitment 8 hours per fortnight.
AS:
»» 1. Social issues and trends.
»» 2. Artistic and political culture.
»» 3. Grammar.
»» 4. Works (Students study either 1 text or 1 film from a given list).
A-Level:
 
»» 1. Social Issues and trends.
»» 2. Artistic culture.
»» 3. Grammar.
»» 4. Works (students must study either 1 text + 1 film or 2 texts from a given list).
»» 5. Individual research project.

Entry requirements

Entrance Requirements:
 
Students should have a achieved at least a grade B at GCSE. The linguistic aspects and requirements of the A Level course imply a solid understanding of the target language’s grammar and language structure.

Assessment

AS Level
Paper 1 (40%) = Listening/reading/writing.
»» Paper 2 (30%) = Writing.
»» Paper 3 (30%) = Speaking.
 
A Level
»» Paper 1 (40%) = Listening/reading/writing.
»» Paper 2 (30%) = Writing.
»» Paper 3 (30%) = Speaking.
