Performing Arts (Dance) Level 2 at Northampton College

Course description

The Level 2 Extended Certificate in Dance is designed to develop your potential for working in the dance profession and for studying at college or university. In this fast moving year you will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of performance skills. The method of learning is by a mixture of both tutor led and practical sessions. Most units are internally assessed through practical performance and written coursework. 2 units are assessed through exam/externally set task. The coursework is graded, and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded at a level of Pass, Merit or Distinction. Modules include: - Production Project - Performing Arts Industry - Contemporary Dance - Performing Dance - Musical Theatre - Work Skills - Individual showcase If you have not yet achieved a Grade C in GCSE English and Mathematics, you will also be working towards these qualifications as part of your study programme and there will also be opportunities to work with local theatres and to go on visits to shows either locally or nationally as part of your studies. To get the most out of this course you will need to be enthusiastic, happy to work with others and confident to perform in front of an audience. If you achieve an overall Merit for the Level 2 Ext Cert you can apply for courses such as a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts, A Levels or employment.

Course content

This course is for students who wish to progress to a Level 3 qualification in performing arts, dance or employment.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade D including English or above or an appropriate Foundation Level qualification.

Assessment

Most units are assessed and graded internally. 2 units are assessed externally. These are then combined and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

Further information

A £80 contribution towards theatre trips, visits and a hoodie will be payable at enrolment.If you are aged 19 or over a the start of the course an awarding board fee of approximately £130 is payable at enrolment.
