Sport & Public Services Level 1 at Warrington & Vale Royal College
The sport and public services course provides the skills and knowledge required to gain employment within the uniformed public services or the sports industry. If you are interested in a career in the public sector such as the Emergency Services or the Armed Services or you are wishing to pursue a career in sport, then this is the course for you.
This qualification requires motivation and a good academic level of achievement as it gives learners the opportunity to progress into higher education. Throughout the course learners develop a range of skills, techniques, personal attributes and attitudes essential for successful performance in public services or sports careers.
You will develop your writing and arithmetic skills. The course is assessed by ongoing assignments including reports, diaries, logbooks activities are also assessed, with opportunities to demonstrate research skills and present your findings based on your ability. You will also complete practical activities on sport and outdoor pursuits, completing real life Public Services exercises.
You will need 4 GCSE’s at grade E or above or the successful completion of an Entry 3 qualification.
You can provide evidence through the following methods;
- Carry out practical tasks
- Present information that you have gathered
- Keep working logbooks, records and reflective journals
- Practice English and mathematical skills
- Take part in oral or written presentations
- Take part in role play, interviews and other activities.
You will be required to purchase a uniform and a sports package.
On completion of the course you can enrol onto a BTEC level 2 course.
Will I complete work placements?
Yes, you will be required to complete a phase of work placement which may include the Army Insights course.
Are trips and residentials organised during the course?
You will be actively taking part in day related activities off site such as one day and overnight expeditions, sport events and trips.
Are there any links with industry?
All the instructors on the course have relevant occupational links with the industry and will arrange guest speakers to visit the course as well as external visits for students.
