AS / A Level - Computing at Blackpool Sixth Form College
A Level Computing will prepare you with the theoretical knowledge of computer studies as well as hands on experience of creating computer programs to solve problems. Using the extensive range of Apple technology you will develop programming skills using the VB.Net programming language.
AS Computing year includes:
- Components of a computer system and their functions
- Data representation
- Systems development life cycle
- The role of the Systems Analyst
- Data types and data structures
- Testing computer programs
A2 Computing Year includes:
- High level languages
- Operating systems
- Computer architecture
You must have at least a grade B in Mathematics and a grade C in English.
- AS - 100% exam
- A2 - 60% exam and 40% coursework project
Exam board: OCR
This course has an excellent track record of producing high quality computer scientists that are able to succeed on undergraduate courses. Students who are thinking of studying Computer Science at university should also strongly consider taking AS Maths as this is often a requirement.
