Performing Arts - Dance Level 3 Diploma at West Herts College

Course description

This is a fantastic course for people that love dance. We have a track record of producing dancers with diversity, dynamics and discipline. Join us and participate and perform in all aspects of dance while preparing for higher education or vocational dance courses.

Course content

You’ll study contemporary, ballet, jazz, choreography, urban dance and dance appreciation.

It’s a focus that embraces physical theatre, contact improvisation, site specific work – plus audition techniques and relevant industry skills.

Our interest in historical and contemporary dance works will see you learning and performing choreographed pieces you devise yourself. Enriching this creativity will be guest lecturers and trips to professional dance works.

Live performance is key – at venues and events across our local community:

  • St Albans Fashion Week

  • Watersmeet Theatre

  • Peace Hospice

  • Watford Palace Theatre

  • Cameo nightclub

  • Brighton beach

  • Local Schools

  • Intu Watford

Confidence once you start work matters as much as talent. We’ll build yours through GAP work placements with local employers. We’ll help with maths and English, too – preparing you now for working life or further study at university.

You will study towards the L3 diploma (90 credits) in your first year and progress on to the extended diploma (180 credits) in the second year.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs (A* – C) including English or maths, or a Level 2 Diploma, plus an audition and interview.

Future opportunities

Progress to a Foundation Degree, BA Honours Degree in dance or dance related studies. Dance is a diverse and varied industry, with job opportunities including performing, teaching, choreography, dance administration and promotion.
