ICT (Software Development) BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Preston's College

Course description

Covering a wide range of IT subject areas, this course is the ideal starting point for your education in IT and the related industries. You will be taught by tutors with an in-depth knowledge of the ICT industry and the requirements of job roles within it.

Course content

You will study 18 units over 2 years including:
– Object orientation programming
– Procedural programming
– Website production
– E-commerce
– Communication & employment skills for IT
– Information systems
– Software design & development
– Systems analysis & design
– Client side customisation of a website
– Organisational systems security
– Computer systems
– Database design
– Web animation
– Computer games design
– Developing computer games
– Web server scripting
– Event driven programming

Entry requirements

You need five GCSE’s (or equivalent) at A*-C grade. A GCSE at grade C in either English or maths with a minimum grade D for the other subject. You’ll also need to attend an interview to discuss your interest in the course and complete a Level 2 IT assessment.


Assessment is through a coursework and assignments.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this programme can provide progression to university level courses such as Foundation Degrees, HNCs or HNDs in subjects such Software Development, Games Design or IT. Alternatively you may seek employment in the industry.
