Fitness Instructor NCFE Level 2 Certificate at Chipping Sodbury School

Course description

The course offered is a mixture of practical and theory and is aimed to provide learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to plan, deliver and evaluate safe and effective fitness instruction sessions via the context of gym-based exercise. It will give you a good feel for what it will be like to be at work in this industry as well as developing your communication, number, IT, time management and teamwork skills. You will be assessed on your portfolio of evidence that you will keep to demonstrate you meeting all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

Entry requirements

For Level 2 courses, students are expected to have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade G or above. All students who have not achieved a C in English or Maths will be required to re-sit that GCSE Course.


Year 12 & 13 (this is a two-year course only)

  • Anatomy & Physiology for Exercise
  • Know how to support clients who take part in exercise & physical activity
  • Health, safety & welfare in a fitness environment
  • Principles of exercise, fitness and health

Optional Units

  • Gym based exercise pathway
  • Exercise to music pathway
  • Exercise and Physical Activity for Children Pathway

Future opportunities

The NCFE course could lead you to other level 2 qualifications, level 3 fitness / sport qualifications and to a fitness / gym – based working environment. Learners successfully completing this qualification will be able to gain access to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 2.
