Trees and Timber Apprenticeship Level 2 at Bedford College
This Apprenticeship will provide you with the skills and knowledge required for a wide variety of arboriculture duties, which can be applied to a broad section of tree-related operations in a commercial or residential environment. Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes: you work and get paid to gain industry qualifications. This course will combine the practical hands-on experience of the workplace with the knowledge and understanding gained through a College course. This Apprenticeship will take up to two years to complete, and you will normally be required to attend College for one day per week.
Within the work-based diploma you will be studying practical experience and theoretical knowledge of safe chainsaw use, tree identification, pests and disease identification, and arboriculture operations from the ground.
During the course you will study to achieve the following qualifications:
- Work-Based Arboriculture Level 2 Diploma
- Functional Skills in Maths Level 1
- Functional Skills in English Level 1
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
- Employment Rights & Responsibilities
- Emergency First Aid.
To begin this programme you must be employed full-time in a job role related to the course. You will also need two GCSEs at grade A*-D, or successful completion of a Level 1 Horticulture programme.
On successful completion of this Apprenticeship you can progress on to an Advanced Apprenticeship or further arboriculture qualifications, or seek further employment in the arboriculture industry.
In addition to the mandatory units of the NVQ qualification, optional units for each trade element will be available for selection according to your main job role/function.
