Drama and Theatre Studies at Sir William Robertson Academy

Course description

The A Level Theatre Studies course develops your understanding of Drama from GCSE. It is an opportunity to study plays from the point of view of a director, designer, performer and critic. The qualification is designed to enable students to acquire a knowledge and understanding of the language of drama and theatre as well as to develop their performing and analytical skills.

For those students who have enjoyed their GCSE Drama course, you will love this. You will explore different playwrights and texts in much more detail and develope your ability to be an outstanding actor.

We have a purpose built drama studio, music practice rooms, a Mac suite, green screen, sound proof recording studio and video recording equipment which will be available for your use.

What can I expect?

A Level Drama and Theatre Studies will expand your creativity and offer opportunities for you to share it with others. The course will be taught through group workshops, discussions and seminars. There will also be opportunities for independent research and practical exploration. We aim to see as many live performances as possible, helping to expand your knowledge of Theatre.

Entry requirements

The minimum entry requirement to get on a full AdvancedLevel programme at Sir William Robertson Sixth Form is 5GCSE grades at A*-C including English and Maths.

We would also normally expect you to have at least a grade C at GCSE, where taken, in the subject or course you wishto take at Advanced Level.

Where the GCSE has not been taken, the Core and/or a related GCSE will be used todetermine suitability.
