Photography - AS Level at RR6 Wimbledon

Course description

Why study Photography? This course allows you to explore the creative use of photography as well as gain a thorough understanding of the technical processes underpinning film based and digital photography. You will also gain an understanding of the principles and techniques of still photography and the moving image. You will be required to work with at least two photographic media – film photography, digital photography or the moving image. You will learn how to critically evaluate a photograph and moving image, how to compose and take photographs and how to use a dark room. You will also learn about animation processes and the technical qualities and functions of various film and video formats. The course is assessed by coursework and an externally set assignment. An example of the type of work involved Composition, the impact of shutter speed and aperture on photographs and the manipulation of photographs to convey meaning.

Entry requirements

GCSE English C, Art B or suitable portfolio of photographic work

Future opportunities

An A Level in photography would be ideal for progression to a specialist degree course in photography or an art foundation degree course.
