Course description

SGS College provides an exciting opportunity for people to enter the increasingly popular industry of make-up artistry. This intermediate course provides the essential foundation for any aspiring make-up artist by offering a wide range of practical skills that are highly valued in the industry. The course offers varied professional industry-standard skills to ensure a successful career in today's competitive industry.

Course content

The course content includes exciting subjects such as:

  • Professional makeup application
  • The art of photographic make-up
  • Body art and themed face painting
  • Nail art
  • Tanning
  • Eye treatments
  • Shampooing
  • Plaiting and twisting

Entry requirements

1 GCSE at grades A-C (or equivalent) in either English or Maths. You should have excellent personal appearance and a high level of hygiene. You must be enthusiastic and have a genuine interest in Make-Up Artistry. You should be a team player, as often you will have to work closely with a number of colleagues. You will also need to have suitable tutor/school references and a skills check. Mature applicants will be considered without formal qualifications, subject to taster day and interviews.

Assessment

You will be assessed through observation of practical assessments, assignments and examinations. Experienced tutors will closely monitor and guide you through techniques to ensure you are meeting and exceeding industry standards. You will have personal one-to-one tutorials to review your progress regularly.

Future opportunities

Progression on to Level 3 Theatrical Make-Up Artistry and Special Effects at Filton, or Level 3 Make-Up Artistry at Stroud, will provide you with the qualification, experience and additional skills you require to work within the industry and meet the high standards that it demands.
