Biology A Level (WJEC) at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe
The great diversity of life on Earth gives rise to many important questions: How did such diversity arise? How is it maintained? What will happen as diversity decreases due to human action? To begin to answer these questions we need an appreciation of the full spectrum of biology, from molecular bioscience to population ecology. Advanced Level Biology provides this breadth of view. In recent years our understanding of biological systems has advanced at an unprecedented rate. Yet with each new finding come more intriguing questions about the complex and dynamic nature of the biological world. During the course, some of these issues will be addressed, and the way in which they are interrelated will be considered. What does the course contain? Biology at this level can be exciting and challenging as there is an opportunity to study a range of topics including Cell Biology, biochemistry, Genetics, Statistics, Microbiology, Physiology, Evolution and Ecology.
In order to follow the course, students should have gained at least a grade B in both Science I and ll at GCSE level. Special consideration will be given to students who gained an overall C but scored B grades in the Biology elements. The students will al
The course provides a good foundation for anyone intending to pursue a career in Medicine, Health, Psychology, Science, Agriculture, Veterinary Science or Environmental Studies
