Hairdressing Level 2 Diploma at East Surrey College

Course description

The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies (QCF) is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in a broad range of women’s hairdressing skills. Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge and understanding of theory to each unit and gain the employability skills needed to become a successful hairdresser. You will also be expected to participate in relevant work experience.

Course content

Units/topics covered:
 
 Follow health and safety practice in the salon
 Working in the hair industry
 Client consultation for hair services
 Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
 Colour and lighten hair
 Cut women’s hair
 The art of dressing hair
 The art of colouring hair

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs Grade A*-D including English and Maths, and an interview; or Level 1 Hairdressing and GCSE grades A-D in English and Maths. A positive reference from your tutor and a proven track record of good attendance and punctuality. Willingness to follow uniform guidelines and comply with college attendance and punctuality standards is essential. Candidates will need to be able to practice at home and provide clients for assessment at the East Surrey College salon, Escape.

Assessment

A portfolio of practical work, exams and assignments.

Financial information

If you are under 19 on 31/08/2016, tuition is free. If you are 19 or over please consult Client Services for advice and guidance on funding and eligibility.
Please be aware that there may be additional costs for equipment and educational visits. This information will be available from the curriculum staff at interview.

Future opportunities

Employment as a junior stylist in a salon, Barbering Level 2 or Hairdressing Level 3, or NVQ Apprenticeship.
