Travel and Tourism Diploma Level 1 at Boston College
This course is designed to provide you with a variety of skills for the world’s largest industry. Our aim is to prepare you for satisfying and rewarding employment in the enormous range of occupations in travel and tourism.
For this course you will study seven units, which may include:
- The UK travel industry
- The UK tourism industry
- Customer service in travel and tourism
- Locational geography
- Recommending holidays to suit customer needs
- Worldwide travel and tourism destinations
- Preparing for employment in travel and tourism
During the course you will also study Functional Skills English and Maths to enhance your employability skills.
In addition you will also study employability and money management skills which will add to your CV and enhance your employment and progression options.
The course will include role plays, presentations, group work and the completion of practical tasks.
You will also undertake a period of work experience which will be extremely useful in preparing you for your next steps in either employment or education.
2 GCSEs at grades D or above (New GCSE grade - 3 or above), or Entry 3 Certification in Skills for Working Life or Life Skills, or ESOL Entry Level 3 (or equivalent).

You will be assessed by the production of a portfolio of evidence and exams.
You may wish to purchase textbooks which could cost around £40.
There may also be opportunities for you to attend trips both in England and Abroad, however these depend on availability.
Successful completion of the course could lead to progression onto the First Diploma in Travel & Tourism at Level 2 if a merit or distinction grade is achieved at Level 1 or to employment within the industry in roles such as a resort representatives, holiday sales advisors or working within the tour operations industry.
