Professional Cookery C&G Level 2 NVQ Diploma at Grantham College

Course description

This qualification builds on the skill and knowledge acquired at Level 1 and prepares candidates for employment or further study. Units for the qualification include: Investigate the hospitality & catering industry, Food safety in catering, Health & Safety in catering & hospitality, Healthier foods & special diets in catering, Catering operations, costs & menu planning, Applying workplace skills, Prepare & cook food by a variety of cooking methods, Produce various patisserie products.

Course content

Level 2 is a continuation of the level 1 qualification. This will reinforce and develop skills in food preparation and cooking for customers within the College's Apple Tree restaurant with a view to progressing on to level 3.

Entry requirements

You need to have completed the Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Professional Cookery (or equivalent).

Assessment

Each unit is assessed by a combination of externally set assessments and multiple choice tests. Craft units are assessed by a series of practical assessments covering the range of different commodities.

Financial information

Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.  Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.

Future opportunities

This course is suitable for you if you have a Level 1 food preparation qualification or equivalent and are wishing to find or progress in employment within the hospitality sector.

Further information

All students are expected to work towards a grade C GCSE in maths & English.
