Travel and Tourism BTEC First Diploma at Northampton School for Girls
Description of the subjectThis is a modular one-year course which involves the study of the travel and tourism industry, an understanding of practical skills and investigation into the products and services offered and the different types of organisations providing them. The subject is all coursework based. It is a practical work-related course.
What you will do· Investigate world travel geography and recognise the value of the industry to the local and national economy.· Develop customer services skills.· Foster imaginative and critical thinking as well as the acquisition of knowledge.· Develop accurate research skills and excellent ICT skills.
Qualifications to start the courseTo study Travel and Tourism you should have studied to GCSE level and achieved at least five grade C’s or above or a Merit or Distinction at Intermediate GNVQ level. You need a good standard of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. You should enjoy independent learning, research and presenting portfolio assignments.
Future prospects· Students with an A level in Travel and Tourism have access to a wide range of career and higher education opportunities. Skills developed during the course will prepare you for further and higher education.· Travel and Tourism combines with most other subjects to enable progression to a range of university courses such as Geography, Business Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Marketing, and Travel and Tourism Management.· Many students choose to use their qualification to go straight in to employment, rather than go on to higher education. Travel and Tourism students develop transferable skills that employers are looking for; hence they have access to a wide range of employment opportunities.
